What is Hardness measurement test?

In order to learn about the hardness measurement, test we first need to understand what hardness is.

Hardness is the ability of a material or a product to resist any type of force such as the process of drilling or penetrating etc. and not being deformed.

At present, there is no scale present in the world to measure hardness of the product.

Therefore, different processes are run on to the product to gain different results, which at the end make a complete hardness measurement test.

There are many hardness tests present in the world used for this purpose but the main tests include Rockwell test, Brinell test, and Vickers test.

Every test provides us with a totally different and unique set of results of the products.


What is a tensile test?

Tensile testing is the testing of tension in different samples of the products.

In it, the objects are tested to their limit until they are broken.

The properties of a product that are usually measured due to this tensile test are ultimate tensile strength of the product, maximum breaking limit of the product, maximum elongation of the product and also the reduction in its area.

It is related to the subject of Physics.

This is not much useful in the sense of safety of the products.

It is so because in it the product needs to be broken so that we could initially come to know the limit of the product that up to what extent it stretches itself and is destroyed.

This process is also mostly used to find the elasticity in the product.

All these processes are ultimately related to Young’s Modulus.

Yield strength and strain hardening are also part of it.


Reason why hardness test is more convenient than tensile test

In hardness test, no product is harmed or damaged whereas in tensile test it is opposite.

In tensile test, the products are stretched until they are broken so that they could exactly get the total tensile strength of the products.

Another reason is that the hardness test tells us about all the specifications of the products without harming them whereas tensile test is opposite.

It has to run different processes which in result harm the products or even break them.

So, these are the main reasons due to which hardness test is better than tensile test.
